Can We Talk?

Freedom and personal responsibility obviously frighten a great many Americans. They also seem confused by them. How often have you advocated for something only to have someone assume that you must like it or do it yourself? How many times have to defended something or someone, only to have others assume that you must like or agree with that person? It really does show an inability to think things through on their part. Some examples;

I am FOR the legalization of Marijuana and other drugs (Ending the drug war), yet I do not use drugs myself.

I did not vote for Trump and do not care for him, but when he is unfairly bashed I will point out the hypocrisy and double standards being applied. Of course people thus assume that I do like him. No, I like truth.

I do not support people who riot and loot and so, many may assume that I love and admire everything that cops do. Wrong again. I do not support anyone who infringes on my rights - PERIOD!

I want to see the Department of Education at the federal level abolished, thus there are those who think I am against education. This is, of course, a stupid response, because education should be handled at the local level, not the federal level.

If I challenge the real purpose of groups like BLM and Antifa I am labeled a racist, even though skin color has nothing to do with my decision, their political goals (Marxism) do.

There are many examples one can offer and they all point to an all too common trait in our American culture today - People like to pigeon-hole others. They can't communicate with other people on a rational, logical level, so they must place them in boxes that allow them to assume that they know all about the other person and their belief system. They will not ask questions or try to understand someone elses point of view. Just call them names and shout them down and you win the argument.

White males between the ages of 18-24 must think this way.

White makes between 25-34 should think that way.

White females....blah blah blah

Black males.....

Black females...

and on and on and on.

And lord help you if you fit into one of those categories and you don't toe the line. You will be called all sorts of colorful names. This is a big reason why we find ourselves in the mess we are in now.
