Floyd's Opinion
Illegal AliensRichmond Times-Dispatch April 2, 2006 Dear Sir, I have been mulling some things over in my head recently and felt I had to make them known. It is in reference to all the news about ILLEGAL immigration in our country and the responses from those on the left. I couldn’t help but notice, yet again, the dichotomy that the arguments from the liberals among us present. Once again we are asked to ignore any long-term results of their desires and focus only on the fact that “they care”. These are the people who feel that we should simply “open our borders” to any and all who wish to enter our country. No requirements need be met. No rules applied or followed. No permission sought or granted. Just come on in! Bear in mind that these are the same people who want to save the whales, but abort human babies. They want to abolish SUV’s, except for theirs. They want to disarm law-abiding citizens, but let criminals out of jail. Get the picture? They are also the loudest when demanding that we protect and preserve our environment. Don’t use up all our natural resources! Save the trees! Don’t pollute! Etc., etc., etc. So I wish to ask these “forward-thinkers” among us to follow this line of thought and apply it to their desire to see an unchecked influx of immigrants into the U.S. If the liberals have their way, where will all these new “citizens” live? How much land will be needed to hold them? How many trees must be destroyed to create the housing necessary for living quarters? How much gas will be needed to transport these people back and forth to their jobs? How many natural resources and bucolic scenes must be destroyed to accommodate our new worker class? I only ask these questions, and there are many more that could be asked, because I wonder if any of these “open borders” types have even bothered to think about this. I, for one, would be curious to know the answer. Sincerely, Floyd C. Bayne
