Floyd's Opinion
State IssuesThis letter was sent to Governor Wilder and representatives Watkins and Benedetti. The text was the same.
The Honorable J.C. Watkins Dear Sir, We trust this letter finds you well. We write to you to voice our concerns about proposed legislation. As voting citizens of the Commonwealth we wish to express our disfavor with the following bills/proposals: 1. S.B. 514 - Please vote against this attack on our heritage. We feel that existing laws are sufficient to handle historic district designation. 2. Any legislation that would further the State’s meddling in daycare/baby-sitting. Don’t we parent’s have enough to worry about without the State making things harder for us? All this type of legislation will do is reinforce the belief among those at the Capitol that they know more about what’s better for our children than we, the parents, do. It will cause many small baby-sitters to go out of business altogether. Please vote against any such legislation. 3. Any type of gun control legislation is abhorrent to us. It is a fact that the only people affected by such legislation are honest citizens. Criminals, simply by their nature, will not obey these laws any more than they do any others laws. Please vote against any gun control laws. 4. TAXES! We are already being taxed to death. It is not our fault that the State does not have enough money to pay it’s current bills. It is grossly unfair to punish us for our representative’s inability to live within their means, by further taxing us into the poor-house. Please vote against any type of tax increase, even if it is disguised as some other form of revenue gathering. As voting, tax-paying citizens of the Commonwealth we trust that you will take our concerns seriously and not just brush us off as a nuisance to be tolerated until election time. We thank you for making any sincere effort to represent our interests. Sincerely, Floyd C. & Susan L. Bayne
