Floyd's Opinion
Meal TaxThis letter was written to my Board of Supervisors representative on March 15, 1994.
Edward Barber Dear Mr. Barber, I trust all is well with you and your family. I write regarding the Meals Tax question. I could spend much time and paper expressing my opposition to any further taxes of any kind, but I will just get right to the point. There are already too many taxes that face us each day. To add another to this list, no matter the reasoning, is just more than I can stand. Instead of placing the burden of another tax on us why not practice fiscal responsibility? This would, of course, mean having to learn how to balance a checkbook, just like the rest of us do. How about rearranging the county Government’s priority list? Where is money being spent that could be better used elsewhere? I think you get my drift. It is obvious that I am opposed to any further taxes. However, I support placing the question on a public ballot with the sincere hope that it will be voted down. Please help us to get the counties fiscal priorities in line with the reality of the monetary circumstances that we all face today. I am sure you can be of great assistance in this matter. Thanking you for your time in this matter I will close now, asking you to remember me to be, yours for liberty, Floyd C. Bayne
