Floyd's Opinion
HealthcareThis was written to the liar in chief on January 17, 1994.
President Clinton Dear Mr. President, I trust this letter finds you well. I write to you as a concerned, voting citizen of these United States. Before I go into my reasons for objecting to Federally subsidized healthcare I will mention that I have enclosed a copy of a magazine article regarding one aspect of your plan. I ask you, or any of the others who receive a copy of this letter, to deny or refute the claims made by this article. For if they are true, then our country is indeed moving ever closer to a totalitarian, socialist government that spells the end of all we, as TRUE Americans hold dear. As one American who has chosen not to abdicate my birthright, as guaranteed in the Constitution, I will not stand idly by and just allow the government to run roughshod over my freedoms or those of my family. What you propose, Sir, is repugnant to any American who has read and understands our Constitution and the liberties it calls for. I ask you and your minions to rethink your approach and, if you care at all about true freedom, to remove from the congress of the United States your call for Healthcare Reform. The government simply has no place, AT ALL, handling healthcare. I challenge you to point to that section of our Constitution which allows the government, on any level, to take charge of my healthcare. It is my contention that the healthcare industry would not be in any trouble in the first place were it not for government interference and regulation. Let the people decide! Let the market-place determine costs and quality. Stop fabricating numbers to try and convince us that there is yet another CRISIS just waiting to destroy this great country. I submit that the only crisis facing this great land of freedom is that which is presented by those who have sold out their fellow countrymen for more power and the almighty dollar. That would, of course, be most politicians. I appeal to whatever decency and love of liberty you may have left and ask that you please leave us to our own designs as regards choices in healthcare. I love my country and all that it stands for, but I remain disappointed at the lack of respect our politicians have for the same. I will close now, asking that you know that I am, Sir, yours for liberty, Floyd C. Bayne
