Healthcare TaskforceThis letter was written on January 28, 1993.
Task Force on National Dear Sirs, I trust this letter finds you well. I write regarding a request for comments about pending healthcare legislation. I have just finished reading my copy of the Constitution of the United States of America and for the life of me I cannot find the part in there that states that the Federal government is responsible for health care. I must have overlooked that part. If you can point that section out to me I would be most appreciative. As a voting American, who pays attention to what is going on politically, I am aware of the fact that there are those in our society who feel that we should look to big brother government to do everything for us. I submit that this is just another example of big nannyism run wild. I firmly believe that the private sector, if left alone by the government, can provide adequate and cost effective health care. Again, from a Constitutional standpoint, it is not the government’s responsibility to take care of my health care needs. But, knowing that our current government is not interested in the Constitutionality of the issue, let’s look at it from a business standpoint. I challenge any of you who read this letter to point out just one government bureau that has operated in a cost effective and efficient manner. JUST ONE! Let me point out just a few of the examples of how efficient our government is: 1. United States Postal Service 2. Social Security Administration 3. Welfare Programs of any type. The list goes on and on. So, given this wonderful track record that our government has why should we believe that this bureaucracy will be any different? I already pay more in taxes than I should and yet you would have me pay more!? I beg for mercy, for God’s sake don’t try to help me any more. This country does not need government controlled health care. We need for the government to get out of the private business sector and stop regulating everything that moves. If this is done we would all have a much easier time finding good, affordable health care. I have no illusions about the effect that this letter will have on any of you, but I felt it necessary for one of us lowly citizens to speak out on behalf of common-sense and sanity. I can only hope and pray that right reason will ultimately prevail. Thank you for allowing me this forum and please consider my appeal. In closing I am, sincerely yours, Floyd C. Bayne
