Floyd's Opinion
Broader IssuesJohn C. Watkins P.O. Box 406 Rm. 515 Richmond, VA 23203 Dear Mr. Watkins, I trust this letter finds you well and enjoying the holiday season. I write regarding the recent community meeting on December 6. I regret that I was unable to attend, that pesky job of mine keeps getting in the way. However, I do appreciate the postcard advising me of the meeting. Please keep me on your mailing list. While I am not yet familiar with any specific legislation that may come before you in January I wish to make you aware of some of the broader issues that concern me. I appreciate your patience with this letter and trust you will give my concerns their proper consideration. While there are many areas of concern probably the one that most needs addressing is TAXES! Every year we hear our legislators make big talk about how they WILL NOT RAISE OUR TAXES FURTHER THIS YEAR! What I, and I believe many others, would like to see is a REDUCTION IN TAXES - ACROSS THE BOARD! We are not undertaxed, we are definitely OVER-TAXED! trying to raise a family today is hard enough with all the detrimental influences on our children, etc. It make s it even tougher when even two incomes have trouble making ends meet. CANNOT EVEN A FAMILY GET SOME KIND OF TAX BREAK!? Crime is certainly a big issue today. I believe that instead of creating hundreds of new laws each year we ought to concentrate on enforcing the one’s we have. GUN CONTROL LAWS DO NOT WORK AND PLACE AN UNDUE BURDEN ON THE LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS! Put the criminals in jail and keep them there. I voted for George Allen for myriad reasons, but certainly foremost among them was his promise to end parole. I trust you will support such legislation. I am sure that I could go on to address many more issues and thus take up more paper and more of your time. However, I believe these two will do for starters. Please know that I will continue to pay attention to the job that my elected representatives do and will write and call when necessary. I have even been known to attend committee hearings on topics of interest to me. I will stay in touch with you and ask that you do the same for me. This way we can continue to work together to make our community a better place for all it’s citizens. I will close now, thanking you for your time and consideration. Please know, Sir, that I remain,
yours for liberty, Floyd C. Bayne
